About Safer Inside
Safer Inside is a neighborhood based, community-driven initiative for a healthier Tenderloin. The goals of Safer Inside are to:
- Reduce environmental trauma from public injecting
- Improve individual drug user health
- Improve the health of the Tenderloin community
- Reduce the incidence of improperly disposed drug paraphernalia in the Tenderloin
- Advance evidence-based harm reduction interventions, including overdose prevention Services, for people who use drugs
The Safer Inside community includes harm reduction organizations serving the Tenderloin neighborhood, other community based organizations, local businesses, schools and youth serving organizations, city agency advisors, substance use experts and researchers, drug policy and advocacy groups, philanthropy and people who use drugs.
Safer Inside believes overdose prevention services allow people who use injection drugs to use in a safe and clean space, be treated with dignity and respect and access support services and treatment options that can open pathways to health, while reducing the traumas associated with public injecting.
Safer Inside is co-led by the Tenderloin Health Improvement Partnership and St. Anthony Foundation. To learn more about the evolution of the Safer Inside community initiative, read Safer Inside - Creating Community Solutions to Injection Drug Use.
